My Migraine Story: How I Managed Migraine With the Heal Your Headache Program

    June 23, 2020

By Amy Hyde My Migraine Beginning My first migraine experience happened when I was 14 and it was actually one of the worst attacks that I have had – what a scary place to start! It was winter and I was clothes shopping with my friends and boyfriend at our local high street. The combination of hot bright shops and cold dark streets triggered my first ever attack. The pain behind my eye built over 30 minutes, I lost the feeling in one arm and began to slur my words. I remember thinking that I needed to go home and get help but my brain just didn’t seem to be…

⚡️ Hemiplegic migraine is an under discussed, ⚡️ Hemiplegic migraine is an under discussed, complex migraine variant that mimics a stroke or seizure. It’s very important to receive a diagnosis for HM to receive proper treatment. For instance, triptans are best avoided during the aura phase of HM. ⚡️ Because HM is so rare and mimics other disease, seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of the above symptoms. ⚡️ Amanda Ingrassia @justbreathemia , the Editor in Chief of My Chronic Brain, shared her hemiplegic migraine experience in our most recent article post. See <link in bio> to learn more. ⚡️ Have you been diagnosed with hemiplegic migraine? How long did it take you to get diagnosed? Is there something we missed on our graphic that you think others should know? Please share you experience below. ——————————

🍗 Are you beginning or have you re-committed to 🍗 Are you beginning or have you re-committed to a migraine elimination diet? Here are a few tips we hope help! 🥬 First eliminate all of the common triggers listed on the diet you select. Don’t try to avoid a few random foods you think “could be” a trigger. That’s called an avoidance diet vs an elimination diet & they’re typically not successful. 🌽 Follow your diet for at least four months or until you reach baseline. If you’re experiencing chronic symptoms it can take much longer to reach baseline. Many with chronic vestibular migraine dizziness report needing much longer...around 9 months to one year mark.
🌶 Expect to make some mistakes along the way. Mistakes don’t mean throwing in the towel. Just get back on the horse and go again. 😉 🍔 Do your best to keep healthy perspective. Try not to develop fears around foods on the no list. Eliminating common triggers does NOT mean these foods are dangerous or will be a personal trigger for you. 🫑 Once you reach baseline, you’re ready to start reintroducing foods to test them as personal triggers for you. To do this start with the foods you miss the most. Eat that food everyday for five days. 5 days is important because tolerance of a dietary trigger will vary from day to day depending on the amount of “other” triggers happening such as hormone fluctuations or weather systems rolling through. Time of day may be a factor as well. When I began introducing foods I introduced just one a week and kept a diary to help track responses. 🍅 Another thing to note is the age of the foods you eat. You may be able to tolerate cheeses aged less than three months, but not older cheeses or bananas and avocado with a bit of green, but not once they show browning. 🍷 If you reintroduce alcohol, vodka and white wine seem to be less risky than other choices. 🫐 Most importantly remember an elimination diet is not forever. It’s designed to help you identify whether or not you have any personal food triggers. Migraine triggers tend to rise and fall. We can be REALLY sensitive one day and get away with things another so plan to be flexible and adjust your compliance according to your personal needs. 🍉 Continued in comments...
🍔 Let’s talk about diets that can help migrai 🍔 Let’s talk about diets that can help migraine. ✨ Heal Your Headache & Charleston: 🍐🍑🍗🍞🥦🥚🥩 🍔 We talk about the Heal Your Headache diet a lot. It is a low tyramine and lowish histamine diet. Following this diet can help our brains calm down and let our preventives work better. Many of us have had great success on this diet. We highly recommend it and are happy to help with ideas, tip and tricks for helping anyone who chooses to try it be more successful. Charleston is very similar, but a bit more restrictive. Keto: 🍗🥑🥦🥚🧀🥓🥩 🍔 We also talk about the Ketogenic diet which has become more popular in the last 5-10 years. This diet has many foods available that are avoided on the HYH diet. While this can be confusing, the keto diet uses ketones as fuel instead of glucose, which is what your body uses when your diet has sugar and grains in it. These ketones sort of bathe the brain and quiet it down. These ketones make it so that many of us can eat foods not typically allowed on the HYH diet (avocado, bacon, cheese, sour cream etc.) ✨ 🍔 The new year often inspires many of us to recommit to a diet or to commit for the first time. Have you tried a migraine diet? Which one did you try and how did it work for you? Let us know below. ——————————

Good morning! Meet Migraine Strong founder Eileen. Good morning! Meet Migraine Strong founder Eileen...
✨Hi all! I’m Eileen, one of the women who writes for and manages Migraine Strong. I live in Ohio with my husband, our two kids and our dog, Crash. @migrainenutritionist and I, together, coach others with migraine and help them reduce the frequency and severity of their attacks. I am also the Guide in the Migraine @Healthline app where I host live migraine specific text chats Sunday - Thursday at 8pmET/5pmPT. You can also find me on my personal account @crashingmigraine.🥰 ✨I was diagnosed with chronic migraine almost 3 decades ago. I was intractable for 18 years having daily migraine attacks while raising my kids. It was super challenging to have attacks each day and not be able to medicate for them without risk of rebound. I know so many of you are in the same boat. I see you. 👀 ✨I have an amazingly supportive family including my in-laws. They have always helped me with the kids when I was having a bad migraine day, cooking with special ingredients to support my migraine diets and just letting me know that they are there for me. 💕 ✨What I have learned is migraine is a thief and a liar. It steals our time and joy and tries to convince us that there is no end in sight. That we are alone and no one will ever understand. 👎 ✨But we are here. We get you and want to help in any way we can. You are not alone!! I can’t wait to get to know all of you better!! 🥰 ✨If you have any topics you would like to me to cover in an upcoming article, drop it below. 👇 ✨Who has been the most supportive of you and your migraine journey?
